COMMERCIAL ANALYSIS PRESENTATION

Commercial Analysis Presentation – Each student will give a presentation to the class using PowerPoint that
analyzes a national commercial. Presentations should range between 5 to 7 minutes in length. An assignment sheet will
be made available on www.doctorpace.net regarding the details of this assignment. The commercial should be recorded
and played as part of the presentation.

1. When considering what commercial to use for this assignment, think in terms of a spot that affected you or made you think about it. These tend to be well-designed and produced. The spot must be national - which means it doesn't represent a local client and the audience demographic is located throughout the nation.

2. Record or find a way to link to the spot so that you can show it in class. Use a link from PowerPoint to the file or URL address. You need to play the spot in a large window. You can play it in parts if you like.

3. How to analyze:

4. The PowerPoint presentation should be 5 to 7 slides - the first being your title page. The second slide should give information about the client. The third slide should be about the spot - appeal, format, target audience, etc. The 4th slide should have the video for playing the spot or set up the link to do so. The 5th - 7th slides would be your analysis/observations related to the items listed above.

5. In class, we will go in random order concerning who is to present. Please bring your PowerPoint file on a USB stick/drive so that it can load quickly. No discs, unless that was the only way you could bring it. You will copy your presentation to the desktop and go from there. I will then have the copy at my disposal to grade. If you have a video file to play, please make sure it is not a large file. Compress it to something that would easily play at good quality. You should copy it to the desktop if you have it on your USB drive also.

6. You will have 5 to 7 minutes to give your analysis and show your slides. There are points for the presentation as well as the PowerPoint itself. Try not to put large amounts of text on the slides that make it hard to read. You may use a script to help you remember what you want to say, but don't get hung up reading it. A presentation should be spoken conversationally, not seeming like someone is reading to us. Maybe some notes cards would be better to help you remember. You also have your slides themselves to organize your thoughts. Up to you - but only the PowerPoint is getting turned in, so there should be enough info on the PowerPoint to make your point.
