Live Story via Social Media – Each student will report on a story live using cellphone technology and
social media interaction. These stories will be spread out over the semester as assigned. Posting of text
and photos online is required. (See the Pages section of Canvas for details, but here are a few also.)
1. Sign up on the Social Media Story List for a date and possible story topic by emailing Dr. Pace with this information. First come, first on the list.
2. You will need some equipment for your assignment. This may include a laptop, tablet, cellphone, camera, digital audio recorder, etc. You will need to connect to the Internet during your story assignment so that information is uploaded immediately. A mirrorless photo camera or other video/photography camera can be used for this assignment, though you need a phone with Internet access to upload to X/Twitter on the spot. You may checkout the Samsung phone from the media center if you do not have a phone with a good camera. It has wireless access, but no LTE.
3. The story should include as many of the following as possible:
4. The story and it's contents should be uploaded to the our class Facebook page - EU electronic journalism News. You do this after the story/event is completed.
5. The story must also have a X/Twitter version, though smaller and less content. You will need your own account for this.
6. The final story must be posted by the deadline and within 4 hours of completing your news gathering. The faster you can get things posted, the better the grade. However, make sure things are accurate and in good order for proper Web journalism. Give attribution, spell names correctly, and follow proper style in writing. The Twitter post is before the final story is completed.
7. Students who have no mobile access to the Internet via their own laptops, tablets, or cellphones should checkout the media center phone (Samsung A71).
