COJA 422 STUDIO
GROUP PROJECT
Corporate
Studio Production
Description: Students will work as a team member in
the group to produce a video program that would typically be posted online that
explains a company or organization’s products, services, history, etc. The
video length is based on the number of people in each group. The videos will be
produced using studio production techniques.
Length: Each person is responsible for
2 minutes of the program plus 1 minute for group interaction, introductions,
and credits. Groups of 3 = 7 mins., groups of 4 = 9 mins.
Shared Responsibilities:
The group is responsible to create a title for the program, organize the
order of the program, determine who will represent each section of program
content, and provide files, information, and media elements to the professor in
advance of class on week 4.
Individual Responsibilities: Each
student will prepare a 2 minute teleprompter script that he/she will read on
camera that represents a section/category of information in the program. The student should also provide at least two
image files that will be shown during the 2 minute section they are
producing. Images can be photos, charts,
diagrams, etc. They must be JPEG, BMP,
or GIF files at least 640 x 480 in size.
The script text will be combined with other student scripts so that
there is only one text file for the group.
Program Sections:
Each program is devoted to promoting or informing the audience about a
company, organization, or community group.
Programs should be divided into sections that best fit the client. This could include an overview, history, list
of products/services, personnel, benefits, etc.
Each member of the group takes a two-minute section to highlight.
The Extra Minute: An
additional minute is added to the program to compensate for the introduction,
transitions, and credits. The program
must conclude within 5 seconds of the assigned length. Everyone shares in helping determine what is
needed in the extra minute portions.
Program Sequence:
The program starts with an opening title. You can create this yourself, if you
like. Please send this image as an
attachment to Dr. Pace in advance of week 4 class. If you don’t want to create your own title
image, send the title of the program to Dr. Pace and one will be created for
you. After the title, the person who has
the first section will introduce the program.
This should include a greeting, your name, and a quick overview of what
the viewer is about to see (coming up). This
can last 30 seconds. Then the first
two-minute section begins. At the end of
each section, the talent “tosses” the program to the next student by saying
something like, “We now go to John Doe who will tell us about the company’s interesting
past.” or “The people who work for Company A are special … Jane Doe has more.” The last student to give his/her section will
also say goodbye. Encourage them to view
the client’s website further. Then
credits will role for 10 to 12 seconds.
Show over. You can develop a more
complex method than this, but Dr. Pace and the crew will need to understand it
clearly before recording starts.
What you need to send in advance:
The show title, student names and their sections to be covered, and any images that
need to be prepared or edited.
What you need to bring to class:
Your group’s teleprompter script file (.txt), at least two printed
copies of the program script, video clips you plan to use (no longer than 15
seconds each), photos/graphs/charts that are ready to put into the character
generator (in other words, digital images).
Bring the digital items on a USB drive.
What you need to wear:
This is intended to be a professional presentation that would be posted
on the client’s website. You represent
them. Dress appropriately for that client’s
purposes. In most cases, that means business attire.
Everyone should be unified here – not some dressed up, others in business
casual attire. Bring clothing if you
have to dress casual for work.
Extra Points:
Bonus points will be given for use of additional images in sections, but
no more than six; for using video clips
(must be related and appropriate); or creating
your group’s opening title graphic.
